A trucking company is suing to overturn state meal and break laws for long haul drivers.
Penske as asked the Supreme Court to review the Ninth Circuit's decision in Dilts v. Penske. The company says that the California meal and break laws run afoul of the Federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act of 1994, which prohibits states from passing laws which relate to interstate trucking prices. Truckers argue that the state laws are related solely to safety.
Both sides maintain that their position benefits consumers, either through lower costs or safer roads.
